Here's a story from our Sept 17 launch at the Nanaimo Jazz Festival from the Nanaimo News Bulletin! Appalachian mountain dulcimer at a jazz festival, you ask? http://www.nanaimobulletin.com/entertainment/nanaimo-jazz-festival-will-get-people-grooving/
Home from performing at Government House with Roy Henry Vickers and Puppets for Peace, for her Honour Lieutentant Governor Judith Guichon. Nico and I are having too much fun touring our new duo CD - ROOTS & GROOVES - a smorgasbord of roots, rhythm and groove! Nico is on fire--literally bursting at the seams with music! Not since Robbie King, not since Pied Pumkin have I felt such unfettered originality! We will do a couple more shows in November!
Here's a lively clip of People I Love You from Cranberry Hall in Powell River. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=028W4HhpN3M&feature=youtu.be
And a clip of us in the studio recording the Max Ochs song THE MYSTERY. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hGP2W57zS9I&t=1s
You can buy the CD at Fascinating Rhythm in Nanimo, CD Baby or from this website!
This intergenerational collaboration has been decades in the making! Nico wrote me a fan letter when he was 8 and at age 23 orchestrated my music for symphony (see a tiny clip at http://blackpress.tv/video.php?id=20641)
Congratulations Valley Hennell and Kari Burk for winning a 2016 Academics' Choice Award for 'Snapshot of a Soul Place in the land of special needs' which has already been honoured with 2016 Family Choice and National Parenting Products (NAPPA) Awards. This illustrated memoir by Kari Burk is based on the life of our 26 year old granddaughter Mielle, with over 40 original paintings and drawings http://www.snapshotofasoulplace.com.
You may remember Mielle from the 1995 'Angels Do' video (click videos!) See our interview on Shaw TV. https://youtu.be/f_n5ZJ6z3fg . Read the story of how the book came to be in BC BookLook http://bcbooklook.com/2016/06/13/snapshot-wins-a-second-time/
